How to set the defaults for AVI recording

I want to set the default size to 640 x 480 and the default location to be in the center of our screens which is approx 500 and 300 respectfully.
What file do I need to change?

Re: How to set the defaults for AVI recording

I don't bother with Vericut's .avi creator, I use Camtasia. Very user friendly & cheap

Re: How to set the defaults for AVI recording

Chaddy, thanks for the tip. Can you give me more information on Camtasia and how you use it within Vericut.

TomB, thanks I'll make the changes to my usr file.

Regards

Re: How to set the defaults for AVI recording

TomB,
My Usr file has those values in it, but when I select:
File, Images, Record, it throws the default values in there and not the values that I can see in my user file.

Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

Re: How to set the defaults for AVI recording

you could get the cheaper 'snagit' if you wanted but this is the best screen capture software I've seen

http://www.techsmith.com/products/studio/default.asp

I know I'm advertising a different product and this is probably a 'faux pas' but if you set camtasia up properly (which is stupidly easy to do) it's an absolute breeze to record your screen just by pressing 'F9'

Re: How to set the defaults for AVI recording

Defaults for base window screen size and location are in cgtech_54_xxxxx.prefs found under c:\documents and settings\loginname .  This is were window size, screen location, view mode, Csys display etc are stored.

The primary problem we have with AVI recording is speed.  Does CAMTASIA or any of the others record the frames when OPENGL is active?

Re: How to set the defaults for AVI recording

Val,

External recording applications like CAMTASIA or HYPERCAM will record frames in OpenGL.

Re: How to set the defaults for AVI recording

I checked out some of the screen capture software.  They work, but you need to be aware of the limits.

They record the OPENGL display, but there can be  "syncrhonization" problems.  They record real time.  Fast tools like drills become a blur.  Tools/moves that take longer to compute playback the same way, slow.  As the setting for FPS go up, so does CPU use, then Vericut and the capture software fight each other and everything slows down.  The AVI file grows even larger and playback slower.

This is the main thing we like about the Vericut image recording, the playback FPS and display syncronization are handled well.
