VPN & VERICUT

Hi,

I usually work from home and some of our applications are floating licenses across the organization. We have servers floating licenses on a global schema, such as Pro/E global bundles, and some others are floating licenses via servers in our location. So for Pro/E I grab licenses from Europe and U.S as well as Brazil, as our license agreement with PTC allows us to float globally.

TopSolid for example is floated locally, as well as VERICUT - We have also Pro/E licenses floating in a local server here, but most of time they are in use, so it´s common to get them from our license servers in Europe due to the time zone differences...

The Sentinel servers for VERICUT and TopSolid are installed in our local servers here in Brazil, and we have two different servers running Sentinel locally - One for VERICUT and one for TopSolid. Because Missler don´t work with MAC licensing - They use dongles.

That being said, I can work from home via VPN and grab licenses for Pro/E and TopSolid. As I said above, many times the Pro/E license I grab is not even from our local servers... and our VPN covers the entire company network, so it does not matter where the licenses are, as long as I can ping the server from home, I can get a license from it...

So here is the deal: VERICUT never works for me via VPN. I can ping the local engineering server where VERICUT Sentinel is running and the ping interval (ms) is always better than the interval I get when I ping a PTC license server in Europe or U.S. It´s not as fast as a local connection of course, but good enough even for a decent remote session...

However, from home I can grab a license for Pro/E from a server outside Brazil, I can grab a license for TopSolid (Also uses Sentinel technology - But running on a different, however local machine) but I cannot grab one for VERICUT. VERICUT starts and return that "A license server was found but there are no licenses on it" - I´m sure the server is running and the licenses are installed and available, because I can access the server via remote desktop (RDP) and I see they are there... another day I called a colleague using VERICUT to make sure he could open it in the company and he said "Yes, I´m using it right now."

This problem ony happens with VERICUT... any ideas?

Re: VPN & VERICUT

The capability to pick a license via VPN have been available for a while.

You need to edit your cgtenv.bat file and point to the remote licenses server.

This file is located in c:\...\cgtech7xx\windows64\commands

Edit the cgtenv.bat an change the location of the set LSHOST by either using the remote license server name or IP address

@echo off
rem          CGTech, Copyright, All Rights Reserved
rem This file sets up the CGTech License environment
rem it should be called from another CGTech batch file

rem The following environment variable specifies the license server host name
rem Change the host name after the "=" to specify a different license server

rem set LSHOST=localhost

set LSHOST=remote_license_server_name

Re: VPN & VERICUT

Ely,

Thanks for your response!

I double checked my settings and they appear to be aligned with what you said - I have LSHOST set with the same IP in both cgtenv.bat and in the O/S system variables... I need to have this in order to have ProEV grabbing licenses correctly...

As I said, VERICUT only fails to open when I'm at out of the company... in the office, the settings below works perfectly... All I can get when OOO is the splash screen...

It's weird, because I'm home now and I can RDP and browse our local network normally, I can launch Pro/E and TopSolid without any trouble...

Re: VPN & VERICUT

Problem solved by rehosting VERICUT's licences to the same server we run TopSolid.

I don't know if the fact Missler uses a more recent version of the Sentinel server was the key here or if it was something in the previous VERICUT server... By the way: Windows Firewall was disabled on the old server...

Re: VPN & VERICUT

Boa tarde Daniel,

If TopSolid is involded I would change the LSHOST into LSFORCEHOST inside the cgtenv.bat.
TopSolid uses the LSFORCEHOST which is stronger than the LSHOST.

Most time when customers have both VERICUT and TOpSolid this is the fix we use.

Mas você, já transferiu as licenças para o mesmo servidor do TopSolid...

Atentamente,
Renato

Re: VPN & VERICUT

Hi Renato,

Yes, I'm aware of the precedence of LSFORCEHOST over LSHOST... but that was not the case here...

The problem was a security policy in the previous server. Moving VERICUT Sentinel to the server where TopSolid Sentinel runs fixed it.

Obrigado,

Daniel

Re: VPN & VERICUT

I know this is an old post but I'm having an issue getting a license with VPN.
Do you happen to remember what the security policy issue was?
We have contacted support and so far nothing has worked. My IT says the request is not making it to the server but if I ping the server they can see that.

Thanks,
Clayton

Re: VPN & VERICUT

Clayton,

Port 5093 UDP/TCP needs to be opened in the firewall.

Re: VPN & VERICUT

Thanks Daniel.
I did not see your reply until today.
The problem went away after installing 8.1.5.
