Insert profile turning planes

Good afternoon.

I'm trying to define a tool in Tool Manager. The machine model is an Mazak Integrex 50. I am turning the I.D. of a part with a boring bar. It seems to work okay, but I get an error in the log file that says "Tool 50 insert profile is not in a turning plane. Modify the tool, gage offset, or machine configuration to ensure the insert is cutting on center." I've looked through all the Help menu information but still can't find out what I'm doing wrong. Can anyone shed some light on this problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Insert profile turning planes

Hi,

To cut properly, a turning tool must be in the turning plane (ZX). If the tool is not in the turning plane, an error is output to the logger and there is no material removal.

This is all good for normal turning machines but the Integrex is different. It has a rotary head that can load a turning tool or a milling tool. When the turning tool is mounted in the spindle, it is not in the turning plane. When the head rotates and moves to approach the part it provoques the error. If the material is removed correctly, you can ignore this error.

Thanks for your help, Serge. That is exactly the situation I was experiencing. I will ignore the error.
