Gouge check missed to display gouge of approx 0.02" deep for a length of 8.0". The cutting tolerance was set to 0.02".
This program was checked using default setting and the part was scrapped on the machine due to this gouge.
Is this a problem that should be investigated or the tolerances should always be meddled with to get a better AutoDIFF report?
Also is it not a problem that the gouge check's reliability depends on the user's alertness to set the tolerances?
Any advice is appreciated.

I would initially start with the quality of the models being used for your Stock and Design, this quite often the source of Autodiff problems.
If you use an stl for your Stock model then make sure you have File > Properties > Stock Consistency Check turned on. On running your VcProject check the logger for any errors.

Thanks for you reply. I tried with the option of Stock consistency check turned on & checked. The results dod not chage and there was no error reported in VC logger from the consistency check.

Your cutting tolerance is too high! Try setting it to .005.

Thanks for the reply. The cutting tolerance of 0.02" is the default setting. Altering the tolerances to values different than default settings affects the relability (or unreliability) of AUTODIFF analysis. A gouge deviation as high as 8.0" inches should be detected within the default tolerance setting. Otherwise the reliability of AUTODIFF changes with each user.
I hope the newer versions of Vericut have better control in this area!

I just checked the simulation, the option of Constant Gouge Check was switched on. The gouge is not detected.

I would suggest you contact your local CGTech Tech Support engineer, he will be able to look at your files / configuration more closely.

I have done that, Tony. The answer I have got is to set the tolerances more tight!
