Optipath - Turning

Hi folks,

Last time I checked Optipath could not work in drilling and turning... did that change?

Tks

No, I don't believe so.

Re: Optipath - Turning

Hi all,

To be honest I really don't see any reason to this on drilling. Am I right? Because it means that you'll have, at least on 99% of all cases, the drill completely loaded, engaged on the hole.

But on rough turning I guess that we have the same similarity to rough milling, the tool sometimes will be less loaded and then we can take advantage of this increasing the feed rates, even more on our big parts.

Does CGTech have some enhancement perspective on this? I means, we could reduce our machining times a lot because 75% of all our machining is about rough turning at very slow motions because of the size of our parts.

Thank you by the advance,

I think so, too.
But i also think that most of the times if you are not grooving, the stepdown can be constant let's say if the tool is down for 2mm's in X and going in Z direction when roughing.
Maybe that's why they omitted that.

Re: Optipath - Turning

What if you have an air cut then? Most CAM systems out there are weak in dealing with air-cuts generated from irregular stocks... geometries that are not perfect cylinder or a box... you mill off a groove and the turning algorithms can't see it or vice-versa... pretty common eh?

Optipath for turning could definetly deal with tool loads or at least remove/accelerate air cuts...

IMHO, the thing is that turning is quite often overlooked by CAx vendors... milling is almost always prioritized in R&D...
