non center cutting tools

When creating tools, we can choose between some basic shapes and a revolved profile.
The basic shapes are very simple to create/change, but they always are center cutting, meaning that all endmills that cannot center cut have to be created with revolved profile.
It would be an improvement if you could't specify a non cutting diameter at the bottom of a basic shape tool (FLAT BOTTOM ENDMILL, BULL NOSE ENDMILL)

Re: non center cutting tools

Hi Patrick,

I like your idea. It is easier then the method I use, and a lot cleaner.

What I to is define a extra holder piece with the non cutting diamater, then drop it down and locate the non cutting solid, with the position on the assembly tab. It works but it is kind of a kluge.

If your suggesting was implemented, the would also need at non cutting Z position, along with the dia, as these tools sometime have and angle and a recess. That way you woul not get false alarms on ramping. The closest to duplicating what it in the shop it always best IMHO.

Good thinking.

Re: non center cutting tools

Agreed this is needed.  Just found a tool at the machine with a blob of aluminum in the center.      Vericut didn't show a problem with the center rubbing since the tool had been defined "normally".

Re: non center cutting tools

Perhaps a bit off topic, but another improvement would be:

A template for step drills (with two or more different diameters).

One input field for each diameter plus one for the lengths of step 1 and step 2. The chamfer angle between the diameters also needs to be specified.

We use a lot of step drills and I have to use revolved profile for those.
