morning everyone,
I fired up vericut this morning and got a error in my logger .
It said " unable to checkout feature vc_machsim ver 5.4 ". I left a message for our IT people. Anyone have any thoughts.
Thanks
Joey

Hi Joey,
How many licenses of Vericut MACHINE Simulation do you have?
If you don't have any, you probably always get this message. We have 2 Verification licenses and 1 MACHINE simulation license, so the first guy into Vericut gets both, and the second guy gets Verification only, along with the same message you described.

Morning Al
How you doing? Yes we have the machine simulation. The IT guy told me to reboot the computer and I just fired it up. It seems to be working so far.
Thanks
Joey

My system guy told me to restart my computer every day right before going home. I think this is actually a good idea, since I'm going home anyway, I don't have to wait for it.

Hi,
Al is correct. We have 2 verification licenses and 1 machine simulation license. The person, Whoever was getting into vericut first, was grabbing the machine simulation license. The second person was always getting the machine sim license error. It was ok. Sometimes, vericut holds onto the machine sim license even after you have done exit from vericut. In that case, we have to close down and bring it up. Most of the times, I do not use machine sim.
If I invoke vericut first, it automatically grabs the machine sim. To avoid that, I created a .usr file without the machine view. We are invoking vericut with this usr file so that when we need the machine sim, we can grab it by switching to machine view.

Putting the " dynamic " option on the vericut start line should prevent vericut from pulling a license until it is needed. By default it pulls one of everything.

We have found that this doesn't always work, if you are using the standard vericutm.usr or vericut.usr as the initial startup workcell try going into ''setup ==> machine ==> settings'' and un-checking the machine simulation on box (remember to do a file ==> save all). This seemed to work better on our systems.

Hi Ben,
As I mentioned in my other post in "Vcut Startup", the "dynamic" command line option was obsoleted in VERICUT 5.2. So, I'd modify your "doesn't always work" comment to "is ignored", at least in version 5.2 and later.
The license check-out for all VERICUT options are always "dynamic", meaning the option is not checked-out until needed by the simulation.
Our default startup user files, vericut.usr and vericutm.usr, have both machine simulation and collision detection options checked. Checking either of these options causes VERICUT to check-out a machine simulation license when the user file is opened.
Thus your solution to uncheck these options and re-save the user file is a good one. You don't have to do a "save all", just save the user file.
Regards,
Bill
