Hey all, I'm racking my brain trying to get my first program to work. I have the tools set up, but the machine is using where the axis show on the tool and not the driven point. How do I move those axis ? See picture.

It looks as though the tip of the tool is located below zero. Right click on the cutter, click modify, and go to the assemble tab. In the position box, the values should say 0 0 0. Then look at the same value for the holder itself. that value should be 0 0 #, with # being the amount you want the tool sticking out of the holder. This way, the driven point is by default the tip of the tool, and the gage point would be the mating face where the holder contacts the spindle face. To set that, click with the mouse wheel on the mating surface, which will only change the z value, or left click on the surface and manually set the x and y to zero. that should take care of your problem, and if you have any questions, let me know.

Now can you tell me what's the point of putting the driven point on the end of the tool.........seems to do nothing ??

The driven point is just like setting the TLO in the machine...it is that point that the machine uses to determine where it is in space relative to the pick up. generally speaking, the only time I ever need to set a driven point is when I'm using a port tool for example. all of my drills, endmills, taps, etc i just use the default driven point of 0 0 0. If i remember correctly, when using a different driven point you would need something in the program to call that driven point, kind of like the TLO(although don't quote me on that part). If you only want to control the tip itself, however, there is no need to set a driven point as the tool manager does that for you. So long as your program calls the ToolLengthOffset Macro (generally G43) you should be all set. Also, it might be a good idea to set your "programming method" in your setup to "Tool Length Compensation," as that will let you know whether or not the tlo is being called.

Thanks Mike for the quick responses ! Finally got it going. I've been using Mastercam 14 years, and now learning vericut. I'm used to quickly getting answers, if needed by going to the Mastercam Forum, seems like this is the place for the answers to Vericut.
