Files stay locked

Hi all.  We have a new user and when he runs files thru Vericut, the files stay locked so that other users can't edit them afterwards.  It doesn't matter that he closes Vericut in the meantime.  He either has to reboot his computer to release the file, or I have to go into our Active Directory server to close the file.  Does anyone know a solution for this?
Thanks!

Re: Files stay locked

Do you get a message when you try to open the files? which files? the .vcproject?

VERICUT has no features to change file permissions, the Operating System manages the permissions. Does the user have the same problem if he saves files from other applications?

Re: Files stay locked

The only files that stay locked are CNC programs (text files) that have been run through Vericut.  Once Vericut is closed and our programmers edit the text files, they are notified that they can't save: "file is in use by another".  It's always the Vericut user that has them locked, even if nothing is open on his computer.  Once we reboot his computer, the files are released.

Thanks for the reply.

Re: Files stay locked

We have the same issue if we do not close Vericut or reset the simulation before trying to edit an NC file.  Is it possible he still had the file open in Vericut on his machine?

Re: Files stay locked

We've learned two things so far... that, once he ran a program through the simulator, he would load the next program into it without shutting it down in between.  It's possible that programmers tried to edit the file while the program was still residing in his "simulator cache", if something like that exists.  Otherwise, according to the users, the files weren't open on the Vericut computer when the programmers tried to edit them.  Now we are asking our Vericut operator to close the simulator between every program run through it.  The other thing unique to him was that he used to have a roaming profile, and once we brought him into engineering, we disabled it.  On one of his engineering computers, though, it still considered him roaming.  I don't know if it's relevant but we cleared that up too.  It's only been a few days since we made these changes but, so far, we haven't had locked files.
I'm hoping...  smile

Re: Files stay locked

It is normal that the file should not be edited while it is in use by VERICUT, but should be released afterward. I have tried to reproduce your problem without success. The file is accessible to other users when I exit VERICUT. I think you are in the good track with the roaming profile.

In the meantime, most applications will not let you edit a file marked in use,Wordpad, Words and other Microsoft application have some internal logic to avoid overwriting a file in use. All except one: Notepad... You can modify and save a file even while it is in use (carefully I hope).
