Re: 3d-Compensation

I guess Alex is also a mountain biker...

VERICUT supports 3D compensation when the NC program output is defined by a tool position and a vector for the direction of the offset. The macros are: Tool3dOffset, PartNormalX , PartNormalY , PartNormalZ

We also recently implemented the support for the cutter compensation of 5 axis motions for the Siemens CUT3DC commands. It will be the next release (7.0.2)

Re: 3d-Compensation

We are both right, I was just pointing the limited support that we have (which is the FANUC 3D comp).

Re: 3d-Compensation

Anyone have experience with Siemens 840D, and CUT2D, and CUT3D  and CATIA?
I would like some assistance, and I am sticking my toes in.

Thanks
Dave

Re: 3d-Compensation

We have made some improvment to the Siemens 3D CDC, it will be in 7.1. Make sure you test it in 7.1 beta

I am still hoping to hear some real life experiences, from 840d CUT2D CUT3D users

Re: 3d-Compensation

Hi Dave,

We are using 840D with CUT3DC for years now (1999) with mixed results.
On our 5 axis head/head machines this ALWAYS works without any problems.  big_smile

On our 5 axis head/table and table/table machines we do have a lot of unpredictable trouble with it.
A lot of times -even on simple moves- the controller gives error messages "Danger of collision due to radius compensation".
We had contact with Siemens about this -had controller updates and all- but they never solved it.

Re: 3d-Compensation

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for the reply. We are using CATIA to do our nc programming. I see the PQR output option, but from what I see, the CUTCOM/LEFT .... /OFF option seem to be good enough. We have retrofit over 1/2 dozen CNC with the 840D. I would like to find out more about some of these issues.

I can call it to the attention of my Siemens personal, and perhaps we can get the issue resolved.

I will send you a private message, with my e-mail and I can share with you some things I have found, and I would love to hear some details of your experience. The 840D is unlike any control of the past. It looks like a lot of fun to get into TRAORI, COMPCAD, spline interpolation, etc.

I have talked to a handfull of users, and some love it and some hate it. the ones that hate it think it is to complicated, and it is complicated, but that is why they have programmers work on it. Right? big_smile

We have also looked at VNCK and may get it "one day" if needed

Best Regards
Dave
