Pick Zero point in Tool Manager

8)  Hi folks, thanks for this place. I`d like to suggest an improvement in tools manager: pick the zero point from tool. For example, I have a slot mill, and I need to reference this tool using the top side, or the back side (sounds better?) not the tip. Would be great if the tool manager in V6.0 has a feature to pick the point (only in z) in the tool profile page, or even in main page, just a clicking in the tool vertex, for example.

Thanks in advance

Daniel

Re: Pick Zero point in Tool Manager

Hi Daniel,
If I understand what you're asking for, I think the feature is already there.

Once you've created the tool shape, left-click in the Tool ID's row under Gage Offset or Control Point in Tool Manager's main window. Once that cell is highlighted, pick in the graphic area on the tool. The location you pick should automatically appear in the table. You should see the  target symbol move accordingly in the graphic as well.

Here' a tricky part...

If the "Stack" column is checked (ie you're creating a milling tool and the components are stacked on each other), then only the Z of the pick-point is used. If the tool is not "Stacked", such as a turning tool, or a milling tool in a right-angle holder, then you get the 3d point.
