I have a 3d model of a Kennametal lathe boring bar downloaded from Kennametal's web site as an STL file. How can I improt this tool into the tool manager. I'm cutting an internal sphere and need to check for tool interference.
Thanks

The easiest way would be to open the Tool Manager, Right click in the ID column, and select Search Tool. Go to your saved .stl file, select it, and click Add. That should work, as I use it all the time for my facemills. The other way, if you can save it as a .dxf file, is go to the Tool Manager > Add Tool > Turn. When the window opens, click on the Sweep Profile button. Below the space to enter data, on the left side of the window, select Import DXF. In the DXF Geometry box, select Browse, and go to the file you saved, and select it. When it shows up in the DXF Layer box on the Geometry window, select it and click Import, then Add in the tool definition window.
I don't know if the fact that it is a 3d model will affect the .dxf import process, but one of these two methods should work. As far as defining driven points, gage points, etc, I couldn't tell you, since I only use mills, no lathes, but I would imagine you should be able to set all your necessary features of the tool just like the others.
Hope this helps, and good luck!

This dosen't work. shuts my vericut down every time.... Any ideas?
I can pull the .stl file into vericut as a fixture, but not as a tool in the tool manager. The only thing i can find is importing a dxf file, which is 2d.

Only holders import into the Vericut tool manager. You can't do it as a cutter.

I'm tryed it as a component. Still no good.
What I wanted to do is import a KM63 style tool holder. I can download the solid model from the Kennametal web site, but i see no way to import anything other then 2d .dxf into the tool manager.

Import DXF is in sketcher mode. You need to be in Model file selection to import an STL file. The icon that looks like 4 U shaped magnets stacked on top of each other. Vreicut 7.0 and 6.2 also If I remember correctly.
