90 Degree Head in tool changer

Can someone please point me to samples or threads about using a 90 degree head in the tool changer?  :?

Re: 90 Degree Head in tool changer

Hi Roger,

look in Samples > angle_tool.VcProject

The main concept:

- Build the tool assembly relative to the cutter orientation
- In the holder model definition, there is a check box for "Do not Spin with Spindle"
- Define your gage point, then apply an orientation to it to represent the orientation of the tool assembly in the spindle of the machine.

Refer to the example for details.

I'm doing well Serge hope you are too.

Re: 90 Degree Head in tool changer

Hello again.

I am using a 125 degree head and it appears to be going to the right place when I machine sim but the cutter isn't removing any material.  Does anyone have suggestions about getting the material removal simulation so I can make sure this looks ok?

Re: 90 Degree Head in tool changer

Do not modify the Assembly Position or Angle of the Cutter itself when you define the cutter.   Orient the cutter using the Gage Point and Orientation at the tool definition, in the main window.  Makes it a little harder adding/orienting the holders at times, but it should cut.
In 6.2x and earlier moving the cutter caused problems with cutting.   Haven't re-tested in 7.x.

Thank you vhubbard
That did it.  I also needed to add a driven point.
