Hello Everybody:
Does anybody use this functionality of VERICUT??? If so can anybody project the success rate on a part like 'Bulkhead' atleast the rouging Model ??. I don't have any experience with it and when I tried it using 6.2 version it comes up with a million patches. As far as I understand I have to spend days picking all those patches and combining them . Is there any way that I could specify a tolerance on the patches so that it will do the combine automatically ??
Thank you all in advance for your kind responses.
Anybody using 6.2 on XP-64, Model export Option please also check

Funny you should ask Zac
I did an evaluation last week.
The bottom line..... I want to purchace it, and add it to my box of tools.
It is not perfect, by any means, but it does what I want it to do.
1. a catpart of a bazillion surfaces, roughed out in UG. Now we want to see the condition of the stock...
so, to you can bring in something that was Vericut, but not made in V5, IE... V4, NCL, UG......even MDI !
2. I had a Fixture that was made in NCL, driving lines. This was a 3-axis program, and so the fixture, with all the Vacuum groves and all, came thru. I will Have my friend post a pic here so you can see, it may take a day.

I have done a few with aerospace parts, the best results I had was with the method: Features and Patches.
In the Options tab, then I pick "Detect Scallop Planes". This will detect features sculped with a ball nose and merge them into a plane or a patch.
The slider for the feature collection is separated by feature types (Plane, cones, cycliders). Moving the slide toward the "More" side for planes means that Model Export will try to create more planes through smaller areas. The middle point is generally a good starting point.
After Output is pressed, the Preview and Combine window comes up.
It shows the surfaces as the will be exported. I sort the features by Area. I then combine the smallest features with adjascent features to make a more CAD-like model. You do not need to combine all the features.
You can save an IP-file at any point during the Modle Export process. This allow you to come back to a previous point if you the export is not satisfactory.
It is not automatic but is a lot faster that recreating the part.

Thank you for your kind replies Gents.
Dave... The converted V5 solid, is it drivable in CATIA or it's just a visual thing. We are hoping to get an old part done in NCL with no models to convert back to V5 from old vericut file and reprogram. Does that plan work or its just asking too much.
Serge... When you said you will sort the patches by area and combine the smallest ones .. how do you do it. the window doesn't let me select multiple line items together using control or shift key. Or it's just done on the graphic window by picking each surface and adding ... Sorry for asking such a basic question. As I said I haven't done it before at all.
Thank you

I will send you some samples
the 3-axis stuff is usually high quality
kellered and miltiaxis flanked.... you will get lots of patches
The bottom line is as long as your expectations are not to high, you can use "Most" of what you get. It will have to be examined on a part by part basis.
the more people that use it and give CgTech feedback, the better it will end up
I am waiting for a job to justify the purchace of it.
Like is said, I want it

in 6.2, Launch the Help, in the Training Session section look at the training session #42, it goes through the steps, including sorting the features and merging them.

Change of subject
you used to be able to output a slice, or series of slices
How does this functionality work with the Vericut I have today (6.1 6.2), and what licensing involved ?
How has slice metamorphosized since vericut 2.0??

Gents.. Does polyfix help in a better result in Model Export ??? Also when I try polyfix using a .vct file it s giving me an error 'Invalid polygon file'. I have the input & output file type selected as VERICUT. If .vct is an invalid file type then what is a valid file type when using VERICUT as the I/O file type. Output file format was selected as binary. Thank you all once again for all kind responses.

Gents.. Does polyfix help in a better result in Model Export ?
No. Polyfix is for stl files, usually made from a iges rather than a solid.
A solid knows in VS out
Bill H made a great white paper on the subject

Dave.. but what is that VERICUT file type that Cgtech is referring to in the POLYFIX window ??? I was hoping to bring in the .vct as a stock model and do a polyfix and then model export. mmmm looks like its not going to happen ......

I am stumped
I have no idea why a VCT could be input

In the Polyfix window, the VERICUT model file referenced is not a vct but VERICUT Polygone file or PLY. It is VERICUT's version of an STL model. It is a faceted model as well. It is usually created when in the Modeling window, you import a model from IGES, the model created has an extension .ply.
Polyfix will only modify the normal vectors of each triangles so they consistently point outward or all inward for faceted models.
