I don't know if there have been touches on this, but I think this would be great. I went to the Okuma show last week in N.C. and saw some pretty amazing things using the new control. One of these things involved tooling set-ups. Is is possible to have Vericut work from an external database for tooling, holders, inserts, etc? I would like to have our Zoller maintain the database, with Mastercam and Vericut pulling from this. This way any and all updates are maintained system wide in one place.

STM,
We have an expansive library of tools and assemblies. > 10,000
We use TDM from Walter to handle this. You create AutoCAD based tools and assemblies which can then be imported via a tool list into Vericut with the proper interface. I know there is a Mastercam interface from TDM as well.
The software isn't cheap by any means, but it also means you only create a set of tools once in TDM. It works great for milling tools due to the abilty to revolve profiles. Lathe tools are not impossible but requires a lot more front end work.
Check them out @ www.tdmsystems.com. They now have a 3D tool generator to create solid model tools as well. We use it for Pro/E-Pro/Manufacture. I think I read where Mastercam had that capability now.
Oh, BTW, the Zoller will interface with TDM as well to keep live tool offsets in the database..
Hope that helps.

Thanks a bunch Smythe, good to see paeople do read these things....I read an article on the Walter system somewhere, and have since brought up TDM to the powers that be, denied on cost alone. We didn't get a quote, someone "heard" it was pricy. End of story. It is great to be me...
