Using model files for tooling

When in the tool manager you call up sample C:\cgtech612\samples\Airframe_face.tls. In that file there is a model called C:\cgtech612\samples\index_cutter.stk. Can some one tell me how to create/bring in a model such as that one? I have brought in .dxf files and added inserts, but that doesn't give you the correct holder clearance that a model such as this would give.

Re: Using model files for tooling

Looking at this snippet, it is from version 3.0

Wow that was like 199..3?

VERICUT-model
Version-3.0
1
1 1 1
3
-30.249549 6.232399 -16.301590
-31.145632 0.000000 -16.301590
-31.000000 0.000000 -15.552377

Creating model files are documented in the help file in the model files section. There are several kinds. surface of rev, sweep, etc

For you, if you have solid modeling (Catia, UG, Solidworks) I would make a solid body, and output a STL for a 3D model

Re: Using model files for tooling

it seems like the model file has a typo in the extension. It is an STL model. it should have been index_cutter.stl

Your option is to model it it your CAD model or ask your Cutting Tool Manufacturer for a model. We have seen models from the manufacturers but they are usually too detailed, they have holes/threads and internal features that are useless for VERICUT but add to the model size. In all cases, someone had to simplify the model.

In most milling applications, a complex 3D model can be replaced by a simple 2D revolved profile either from a dxf of defined in VERICUT. When the 3D holder model is spun, VERICUT internally creates a 2D profile and revolves it and displays the initial model when not spinning.
