How to optipath...

I have been trying to tackle the optipath feature and now I finally have my first real-life application for it (not just a test).

I am afraid of breaking a tool or damaging the machine after generating the new NC code. My question is, how do I know that the cutting parameters are correct and will not damage the part, tool, or machine?

Does the "Check Cutting Parameters" feature in the Motion menu do this? Or do I have to rely on my prior knowledge (which honestly is nothing) of machining to know what optimization method and limits to apply?

Re: How to optipath...

A good way to ease into OptiPath is to work with a program that is cutting already correctly on the machine, you then have a real reference point. I would keep the optimization at a conservative level for the first test. On a first run, I would not recommend reducing the cycle time more than 10-15% of the original time. You can then see how and where OptiPath varies the feedrates. With a modest gain in cycle time, you will usually see a reduced load on the cutter and therefore an improved finish.

Once the optimized NC program is created, simulate it once more while checking for the cutting parameters.
