Hi,
Does the construct csys circle actually work for anybody?
Not once have I ever extracted a csys from a circle,and believe me I've tried umpteen times.
I read a previous post from Serge (I believe) that failure could be because of a bad surface.
How bad can a simple surfaced hole be??

If the hole was drilled in VERICUT, then it is fairly easy to know the center, we use the same data available to X-Caliper. It's a cylinder or a cone.
An STL is quite different, it has no history, no features definitions. All it is is an agglomeration of thousands of triangles. When you look at the part, you see a hole because you "know" it is a hole. For the software it is only triangles. If you zoom on a hole, the hole does not look like a cylinder but like a stop sign or a square or an undefined shape. If the model was exported with a smaller tolerance, the triangles will be smaller and the small features will be better defined.
Some CAD systems do a good job exporting the STL. The triangles normal vectors are all pointing outward, they are well aligned along the side of cylindrical features. It is easier for VERICUT to go through the triangle adjacent to the one picked and approximate a round feature.
If the triangles are not well defined, VERICUT might not be able to recognize the features.
Unfortunately not all STL models are created equal.
- You can try to export from you CAD with a smaller tolerance
- You can try to use Polyfix (Flie > Convert > Polyfix) to correct the vector
- If you can, try to export an IGES file and import it in VERICUT

Hi Serge,
I tried everything you suggested with no luck.
Is there anything else you can think of to get this to work.
I want this because I want to use hole references to position my models.
I 'd like to attach a simple hole I made in powershape ,maybe the cad geometry
is the cause,but i see no provision for attachments?

If picking the hole is not possible, you could analyse the point in your CAD and type the values in CSYS position.
Another method I have seen was to create a square block in you CAD with a corner in the center of the hole, This gives you some flat faces to orient and a corner to pick.

Try looking in the lower left hand corner.
Vericut will tell you what Vericut is looking for there
