Calc. Min Cutter Ext.

Hi,
Using v6.1
I,m cutting a part and the holder collides .
Ok, so I check the 'Calculate Min. Cutter Ext.' with 0.040" for the
holder clearance. and,:o
It's my understanding that the tool should be 'yanked' out of the holder to achieve this holder clearance,
along with a nice message to inform me that such has been done and would I like to save the modified tool database.
Well in fact I get neither - NO MESSAGE and NO TOOL MOD !!!!!
Could somebody please shed some light on this as I'm at a loss

Re: Calc. Min Cutter Ext.

The cutter length is only reported to the log file as far as I know, but this might have changed for v6.x
I am currently using v5.4.5, but waiting for v6.1 since a problem report is fixed there.

Re: Calc. Min Cutter Ext.

Hi Stpendl,
Yes , the length is reported to the log file, but, the min length difference
increases only by the amount entered in the holder clearance field,
so in this case 0.040".

Re: Calc. Min Cutter Ext.

HI Again,
I did a bit of investigating with this.
1st I ran another tool with the same clearance params
and lo and behold this did as I expected,
pop up message and correct clearance extension added.
The only difference between this tool and the one that failed
is that this tool was created by the SOR method as opposed
to the std tool creator.
I Redesigned the original tool using SOR and now everything
behaves correctly big_smile  big_smile  big_smile

Re: Calc. Min Cutter Ext.

Hi
Sorry to keep harking on about this yikes
Still not 100% convinced the previous post was the problem
I've fiddled a bit more to try and get to the bottom of this.
The tool I've been having the problem with is a 12R2,
I work in imperial so I've been / my tool sizes by 25.4,
anyhow it seems as if vericut has a problem with values
defined with 6 dec places i.e 12mm = 0.472441".
This value returns the incorrect min. cutter ext,
however 0.47244" returns a correct cutter ext.

Re: Calc. Min Cutter Ext.

Hi,
I have yet another question about the calc. min. cutter ext.
Currently I'm finding that to get vericut to use this function I have to
run the entire pgm, only then will the tools extend .
Is there any way I can jump to a selected  tool and get an individual
result?

Best Regards Jon

VERICUT v5 Location: Setup menu > Motion

V6 Location project + process options > motion

Start At — Specifies the line, or tool path record at which cutting simulation starts. VERICUT fast forwards from its current location to the specified line/record while internally processing intermediate tool path records to store values for the current feed rate, spindle speed, coolant, tool description, and tool location. Options are:

Beginning — Start processing at the beginning of the first file.

Line Number — Start processing at the specified line number of selected toolpath file.

NOTE:  A list all toolpath and job subroutine files defined for the current job will display enabling you to select the toolpath file.

Line Number (Directly) — Start processing at the specified line number without internally processing intermediate tool path records. This line number only applies to the first toolpath (or the first active toolpath if Use Selected Files, in the Setup > Toolpath window, is being used to select only specific toolpath files from the list for VERICUT processing).

Text —
Start processing on the line that contains the specified text.

Tool ID — Start processing when the specified tool is loaded

Re: Calc. Min Cutter Ext.

Hi,
I think the problem seems to be when fastmill is active.
When fastmill is checked the calc. min cutter ext. returns
results as explained in my earlier posts.
When unchecked calc. min cutter ext. works correctly.
