solidworks file exported into Vericut

hi I am having trouble opening a solidworks file in vericut.  Are there certain file extensions that Vericut does not recognize?  I am using version 5.4.

Re: solidworks file exported into Vericut

In 5.4, you can import an IGES model or open an STL directly.

Re: solidworks file exported into Vericut

thanks for the help SergeV, however once I try to open the IGES or STL directly Vericut crashes and closes out completely.  This is not normal is it?

Re: solidworks file exported into Vericut

You probably tried to open it by the main File > Open. This is only to open the User file. Try the IGES or the STL in the modeling window

Re: solidworks file exported into Vericut

WITH SOLIDWORKS. U GOT TO CONVERT IGES AND POLYFIX IT.

ABOUT CONVERTING IGES : FILE-CONVERT-IGES (HINT SELECT INPUT AND OUTPUTFILE AS SAME ) AND OUTPUT FILE TYPE SELECT VERICUT.

A FILE WITH SAME NAME IS CREATED WITH .PLY EXTENSION.

AS A SECOND STEP POLYFIX THE FILE :

FILE-CONVERT-POLYFIX-(HINT SELECT .PLY FILE AS INPUT AND OUTPUT FILE ) AS INPUT FILE TYPE AND OUTPUT FILE TYPE SELECT VERICUT AS AN OPTION.

HOPE THIS WORKS.

Re: solidworks file exported into Vericut

To use Solidworks files in Vericut, just "Save As..." and select STL.

Before you save, click the 'Options' button and put a check against the comment "Do not translate to positve space".

You should find when you import into Vericut that it is in the same position relative to 0,0,0 as it was in Solidworks.

I use Solidworks and Vericut everyday and this method works for me flawlessly.

A side note:.........you may have to experiment with the Angle & Tolerance values to achive a workable file size. I find for my own use a file size of approx 8Mb is good in detail but not too large to slow Vericut down.
