Part/Stock Display

Hi chaps,

Was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to display both the Stock and Design in a view while cutting. I'm doing some turning and it would be useful to be able to see a section/profile that contains both models.
For example an ideal solution would be, in the workpiece view, when a section is applied, being able to display the design in a different colour inside the stock model.

Am currently running 5.4.3 but would also like to know if this is possible in later versions.
yikes
Cheers...

Re: Part/Stock Display

Try X-caliper distance to design.

with that window open do the section, and you will see exactly what you talked about.

just make sure  the design is in a different color.

Also, try translucency.
have both the design & stock as stock.
I think you can give each stl file a different color.

Please try that and let me know if that works. I think it should.

If not, that would be a good ER.

Re: Part/Stock Display

Thanks Dave,

That does give a partial solution in that you can view the two 'inside' each other however when you play back a toolpath file the stock model takes back over and obscures the design.

I think it would be useful to maintain this view while cutting when turning, how might I go about submitting an ER?

Re: Part/Stock Display

Another good idea would be to have the stock translucent, while the design is solid....yes?

this is how i do it on Catia NC Mill

Re: Part/Stock Display

Yes that would probably be the preffered solution, I'll send it in and see where it goes.

Thanks for your help Dave.
