STL & Visibility

I've been using Vericut for 6 months now and this is something I can't get to the bottom of.

In its simplist terms..............why can I see my STL file when I right click 'VIEW TYPE' - 'MACHINE/CUT STOCK'  but not in 'WORKPIECE' view even though visibility in component attributes is set to 'BOTH VIEWS'.

I know its not the model file as I created a simple box in both PRO - E and SOLIDWORKS and both files are the same.

Normally this isnt a problem as it still AUTO-DIFF'S ok but try using X-CALIPER in Machine/Cut Stock view...Its a real pain.

On my original file I ran Polyfix 10 times..........no difference. Thats why I created a simple geometric shape. Still no view.

try right clicking in the workpiece window and select "attach comp"  .  Select stock.

hope that helps

Re: STL & Visibility

Thanks for the reply but unfortunately it didn't make any difference.

I think it may be a bug in the software...If I launch Vericut, then call up the 'Component Attr....' and then switch off the Visibility of the Stock; the Design model appears as it was inside the Stock. If I then hit RESET..........Design disappears never to come back on within workpiece view.

Re: STL & Visibility

Is it your stock model or your design models that you have a problem with?

The design model is not visible during the simulation. This is as designed.
A new feature in 5.4 is the ability to analyse the distance between your stock and the design model.

Analysis > X-Caliper;  Stock/Design Distance tab

- The stock becomes translucent, the design is visible and the distance between the cut stock and the design can be analyzed.

Re: STL & Visibility

The problem is with the Design Model, but not during simulation.

It's when I'm setting up my models into position that the problem arises.

Re: STL & Visibility

To have the Design Model displayed in the Workpiece view, keep the Component Tree window open.

Re: STL & Visibility

Thanks for the reply SergeV but that didn't help.

I can duplicate this very easily EVERY time so if anybody wants to try this then please do.

1. Launch VERICUT.

2. Using the default file that has loaded......Open up the 'Component Tree'.

3. Double-click 'BLOCK' from under the 'STOCK' branch.

4. In the 'MODELING' Dialog box which opens up.....Un-check 'VISIBLE'.
(The Design is now the visible.)

5. Click 'RESET'. ( The Design model disappears, never to come back).

I can reproduce this on all 4 machines in my office.

DELL 3.2GB Intel Xeon.
nVidia Quadro 900 Graphics card.
1GB Ram.
36GB 10,000RPM SCSI HD.

etc........

If this happens to anyone else could you please post a reply. For reasons of sanity, I would like to confirm that it's not just me.

Thanks

Re: STL & Visibility

M74uk,

I can reproduce your problem. So maybe we are both insane big_smile

As a work around, load your design model to the stock component, orient it as needed, and then drag the oriented model to the Design component and restore the stock model visibility.

Re: STL & Visibility

I have had the same problem with stl files in the component tree. If you turn them off via the  "visible" checkbox, you cannot turn them back on.
You have to add another instance of the model and delete the original.

The best way is to use the visibilty in the model attributes to blank to make it invisible.

Re: STL & Visibility

Moving it brings it back to visible.

Move the model and then Undo the move. You should see the model again after the first move.

Re: STL & Visibility

This 'problem' still exists in V6.X

If you follow the above steps in V6 you can duplicate it.

The simplist way is to close the component tree and then open it back up again and the model re-appears.
