I was trying to import a DXF created in solidworks 2006 for a reflex tool. it's importing ok, but it's not aligned to the center. it's placed by default far away from the red center. can any one help me ...
cheers

I think the problem is that you must either create or select a coordinate system for the dxf creation. Put it where you want the origin of the part to be and in the correct orientation. It's been awhile since I had to use Solidworks, but it's ostensibly the same as Pro/E.

Thx for the advice. i tried that as well .

The Origin pt (red center) in the Tool Manager's Revolve Profile window can be moved to the desired origin of your tool, if the "Control at tip" or Control at DXF (0,0)" options from the Import DXF > DXF Geometry window do not give you what you want.
Double click on the tool component to open the Revolve Profile window.
Select the red datum icon on the right - if a red dot is not already following your cursor.
The origin point will snap to one of the grid intersections, so modify the grid size as needed to intersect your desired 0,0 point. (Look at the current coordinates of the first point.)
Drag the red target to your desired 0,0 point. The coordinates of your first point should now be 0, 0. If not, you need to modify the grid size again.
Click "Modify" to push the change to the Tool Manager.

Hi Bro.
That was a nice trip...appreciate.
I have a small toothing problem...when i import DXf from solidworks . Its 115 mm away from x . There's a songle line all the way to the main body. i have to change the co-ordinate everytime i inport a DXF file.
Also when i tried to drag the red spot to the bottom tip of the tool it give error saying ' no negative values'. i moved the red spot little away and add the tool. The tool is added with the sku blue target mark ,right at the bottom of the tool. Can we consider it as the center of the tool....?
I wish i can send you a image of that.

I don't know what is causing your offset in X. The DXF profile file should be created in the same coordinates as the desired coordinates of the tool in the Revolve Profile window. The only thing I can suggest is to make sure the coordinate points of the DXF drawing are in the correct location in relationship to the active axis when it is created in SolidWorks.
The error is due to some values becoming negatives after the origin point is moved. The DXF file is creating a revolved cylinder. It's revolved around the Z axis, and therefore cannot cross the Z axis (a negative number), or it will be trying to create a portion of the cylinder within the cylinder. Basically occupying the same space twice.
The Origin point (red dot) indicates where the Driven Point is going to be on the tool. It will be Z0.0 at the center of the tool, and the point the program will de driving.
Hope that Helps!

Hi .
We have tried all the alternatives , we tried in unigraphics, solidworks in diff planes . there was no problem placing the with co-ordinate system in solid works. any chance i can send the images to make it easy.

I would suggest sending the files to CGTech Support (at cgtech.com/support_main.htm) with a full explaination of the issue.
They will analyze the whole situation/issue and give you a resolution. Or, if they establish there is bug, they will have it addressed and inform you when it is corrected.

I tried the link. there is no option to send the files.
