I have discovered, a while back, that you can Use Vericut to check clash between a vacuum chuck, and the part that mates it.
The steps are
1. Load the Vacuum model as stock
2. Load the part that mates it as design
3. Select any tool path, and press step 1 time to create a cut stock.
4. In Autodiff, set comparison Type to EXCESS
the gold area is the clash
THe enhancement possibly would be to:
1. Be able to see a chunk of the clash.
2. Create a minimum gap

Dave,
I've done the same thing to compare a new version of a part model to the previous version to see what has changed. For this I use both excess & gouge checking. I often get new part models from customers with no documentation as to what's changed, so this has saved me lots of time comparing every feature in CAD.
