MDI in 6.1

Is anyone else having issues when trying to use MDI mode in V6.1?  It's clunky as heck.  I have to click in the MDI window, select a command, click in the VERICUT window, wait... it will execute my command... lock up... wait...

What's up with that???

There's some nice functionality in that new interface, but it's irritating to use.  Do I have a graphics driver problem or something?  Please advise.

Re: MDI in 6.1

Hello Corey,

I am not sure what you tried to do in MDI, but we can have a discussion on how it works.

If you want to just type a command like in the previous versions of VERICUT, type it in the NC Block field then press [Enter]. Once it is in the list above, you can select it and press "Play Selected NC Blocks" to repeat it.

If you typed several commands and want to repeat them, then you can press " Play All NC Blocks" to play them all.

One of the new features is the check box to  "Cut Stock" if left unchecked, it allows you to test different motions without damaging the cut stock. This is useful after a long program.

The 2 new features in 6.1 are "Machine Motion Jog" and "Move to Pick Location"

"Machine Motion Jog"
This allow you to jog the machine along any of its axes like on the real machine. I particularly like the Jog along the tool axis. The jog positions are not recorded in the NC Blocks list. If you want to preserve it, press "Save Locations as NC Block"

"Move to Pick Location"
By picking on the part of the machine, it will move the machine to this location. This is very useful to test the machine capabilities and ranges.
With "Orient Tool axis", The tool can be positionned normal or tangent to any point on the part. There is sometime a delay to locate the machine as the normal vector in IJK format must be translated into the machine axes. On a 5 axis machine, there is often 2 solutions, so VERICUT will pick the solution with the shortest distance from the machine actual position while respecting the machine limits. There is a button to pick the alternate solution. These positions could be automatically addded to the NC Block list or added as needed.

Once mastered, the new MDI window is a great tool to pre-plan your machining operations. A Design model could be loaded on the machine and by picking on the model, you can see if all the features can be done with the machine and the existing tools.

When I was a NC programmer, I used to draw my tool assembly in thight corners to see if the holder would rub or collide with the table. Now I can do it on the screen in seconds.

Re: MDI in 6.1

Serge,

I was attempting to use the "move to pick location."  It worked, but my work session became very sluggish and temperamental after using that function.  Everything I did after using this function was very difficult until I closed the MDI window.  Give it a try and see if you can confirm.

Re: MDI in 6.1

Corey,

Typical Tech support answer: works fine on my box...  yikes I actually did a live demo on Monday.

I know you have some very complicated machines, Have you tried to orient the tool with machines with more than 5 axes?

It is a new feature with a lot of code behind it to position and orient the machine, it is possible that you have a problem case. Please contact Tech Support.
