Status of VERICUT on Vista

In an initial test, VERICUT seems to start-up and run on Windows Vista.

However, we have work to do before we can release VERICUT on Vista. Current issues are:

. The installation process has problems, both with Vista and with InstallAnywhere. We likely have to update our installer to the Vista-compatible version.

. SafeNet, the supplier of SentinelLM warns that applications using certain features “may have problems”. Some of the features VERICUT uses are in the list of "certain features". We have more testing to do, and may have to wait for the SafeNet update to SentinelLM that supports Vista.

Of course, our full suite of regression tests plus interactive testing will have to happen before we release a version of VERICUT on Vista. There is currently no release date set, but we do not envision a significant amount of work to accomplish it.

Re: Status of VERICUT on Vista

Note: VERICUT 6.2.2 does not need to be installed in compatibility mode

Installed Vericut 6.1 on Windows Vista Business (64bit) today.

To get the installer to run right click on install.exe from the CD drive contents and enter Properties then Compatibility tab.

Tick check box to Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 2000

install_compatibility.JPG

After doing this Vericut installer performed as expected and as a client Vericut works as desired.

To get Vericut 6.1.1 to run the file vcredist_x64.exe was required (as posted elsewhere).

As of September 2007, am I better staying with XP 64 Edition, as apposed to Vista?

Re: Status of VERICUT on Vista

Have you had a chance to do further testing?  Do you have a target date for certifying VERICUT for Vista?

Re: Status of VERICUT on Vista

VERICUT 6.2 will be tested and released on Windows Vista. However it appears the current 6.1.x release works ok there as well, other than the possible problem with temporary licenses discussed above. Although we've not seen any evidence of the temporary license problem.

Re: Status of VERICUT on Vista

lol My Vista computer goes into deep sleep too.
I have to admit, most of my computing is done on XP.
But I have fun loading all the Vista compatible stuff on my Vista computer.

Re: Status of VERICUT on Vista

Was VERICUT 6.2/6.2.1 tested and/or "certified" to run on Windows Vista?  I'm not seeing any reference to Vista in the Installation or Release Notes. A previous post mentioned Vericut 6.2 was tested.  Any information that can be shared would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Status of VERICUT on Vista

We recently tested VERICUT 6.2.1 on Vista (the 32 bit version). Our large suite of tests (over 1000 individual test cases) ran clean, no errors or differences with XP.

We have not run the test suite on Vista64, however VERICUT does run there and we've not seen any problems specific to Vista64.

Unfortunately we have not released  a VERICUT version on Vista (32 or 64) for the following reasons:

. The installation program only runs in compatibility mode, as described earlier in this post.
. VERICUT's license server does not run on Vista.
. The run-time libraries used by the CAD Model Interfaces do not successfully load on Vista.

Note: The "CAD Model Interfaces" are not the same as the various CAD/CAM interfaces such as CATIA-to-VERICUT, NX-to-VERICUT, Mastercam-to-VERICUT, etc.

We are working on these issues. We now have updated Vista-compatible versions of the installation and license server programs, and will be updating our release with them. We have not yet determined why the CAD Model Interface files do not successfully load on Vista.

I'll update this post when we know more.

Re: Status of VERICUT on Vista

What's the latest with Vericut for Vista?  Is there now a targetted version?  If so, when is it expected that version would be released?

Thanks.

Re: Status of VERICUT on Vista

Hello Vista watchers,

Well, some small progress. We updated the installer program in VERICUT 6.2.2 to the Vista-compatible version. You now no longer need to install using the "compatibility mode" described above.

On the VERICUT side, we have been running our usual suite of regression tests and have seen no differences between Vista/Vista64 and XP/XP64. Except the CAD Model Interfaces, which use software libraries from Spatial Technologies, do not work on Vista64. We believe it is a run-time library incompatibility, and are chasing the problem currently. Thus, other than CAD Model Interfaces on Vista64, VERICUT 6.2.2 seems to be stable on Vista and Vista64.

We still have not updated the license server version to the Vista-compatible Sentinel 8.2. To recap, VERICUT is using 8.1 of the SentinelLM server, while the Vista-compatible version is 8.2. What does this mean? I'm glad you asked.

You can install and run VERICUT 6.2.2 on Vista and Vista64. The 8.1 license server works on Vista and Vista64, but you have to do the install as administrator. Also, if the license server detects the computer's clock has been set-back (sometimes called "time-tampering") then it is not possible to use the license and is not possible to repair the problem. If you want to use VERICUT 6.2.2 on Vista and/or Vista64 we suggest you run the license server on a non-Vista computer in order to avoid a possible unrecoverable time-tampering situation.

We will update the license server to Sentinel 8.2 for VERICUT 7.0.

If you absolutely need to run VERICUT's license server on Vista, we have temporarily made available a set of files to update your current license server to Sentinel 8.2. This update does not require a new license file and is compatible with older VERICUT versions. To use this update, make sure you are logged-in as administrator on the license server computer, then:

1. Stop any currently running VERICUT license server on the license server computer.
2. Remove the license server service.
3. Download the small zip file sentinel82update.zip using this link:
sentinel 8.2 update
4. Unzip its contents into the license folder of your VERICUT installation, typically c:\cgtech622\windows\license.
5. Configure the license server by choosing the following from the Start > All Programs menu and following the prompts:
CGTech VERICUT 6.2.2> License Server Only > Configure License & Setup Server

Once you've finished these steps you should be good to run VERICUT 6.2.2 on Vista from a license server on a Vista computer.
