The Techsmith TSCC Codec is not compatible with Windows XP64. Thus it will not work with the 64 bit version of VERICUT. There is a chance it will work with the 32 bit VERICUT on Win64, but that kind of defeats the purpose of using a 64 bit o/s.
We will have to hunt for another appropriate CODEC, but my expectations of finding one are low.
If anyone knows of an AVI codec that is compatible with WinXP64, please post your comments here.

After doing some more research, the situation with CODECs on WinXP64 seems to be:
. Microsoft provides nothing
. There is some freeware out there of questionable content and quality
. There is no information available from Microsoft regarding any future plans
The freeware that is available (from multiple sites) seems to consist of a Windows Vista codec pack, plus an add-on 64 bit components pack. This stuff appears to be developed by independent individuals, and may be a compilation of work by several independent people. They claim it is "fully XP compatible". Hmmmm....
After evaluating the safety of installing this stuff, we may proceed with a brief test and post further info. But this is all very questionable at the moment.
I suspect real Microsoft support for 64 bit CODECs will not appear until sometime (a long time?) after Vista is released. I further suspect that Microsoft will not officially support 64 bit CODECs on XP, only on Vista, but they may work on XP64.

I wish I had better news, but the situation is still dismal. I did a another search and set of tests in November of last year. It seems there are only a small handful of people actively creating CODECs for 64 bit. And they mostly seem to be personal experiments. Keep in mind we have some strict requirements: fast encoding, lossless quality, and a significant-enough compression to make it worth-while. Techsmith's TSCC has set the bar high.
The couple of new ones I found in November were dissapointing on all sides, including poor stability.
I have some hope that someone in the video entertainment industry will come up with a H.264/MPEG-4 CODEC we can use, and that they'll need it on 64 bit. It is a faint hope.

Hi Bill!
Thanks for your answer, let's hope there will come solution for this .
One more (silly)question : would it be possible to have an additional 32-bit VCut install.
beside the 64-bit install. i have and use the 32-bit VCut with TSCC codec only when i need to capture AVI's ?

Yes, you can install both versions side-by-side, they share some common resources, but the executables are in separate folders (windows or windows64).

Thanks!
Works great as workaround until there is a better solution for 64-bit

Another possible workaround is to use a screen recording program such as TechSmith’s Camtasia product. An additional benefit is that you will have the option of recording menus, mouse picks, etc.

A good freeware solution is available from Wisdom-Soft.
The freeware has some limits, but I have successfully captured NX graphics screens.

Anyone know how to get Camtasia to sync 1 frame to 1 move in Vericut? Similar to how the internal Vericut Movie creation works? That has been the problem with external captures for us.

Hello, This subject about that TSCC isn't compatible is now wrong!
I want to share my information about TSCC codec and my contact whith TechSmith Support, read below!
Question from me to TechSmith support:
my question is about your TSCC, Does it work in Windows XP 64-bit?
Answer:
Yes, the TSCC codec does work on Windows XP 64 bit. However, versions of Camtasia lower than 6.0.3 can have some problems working on 64 bit systems.
Let me know if you have any other questions,

The problem today with the TSCC codec on windowsX64 is that it does not work with Vericut64, only the 32 bit version of Vericut. We have both versions of Vericut loaded on our X64 systems. Vericut64 for everyday use and Vericut32 when someone needs to create an AVI file.
Capturing Vericut playback with Camtasia is on a frames per second basis. If you set frames/second low enough then it works fine, but much of the cut detail is missed. Tools that display on the screen faster loose more during the capture. If you increase the frame/second for more detail, then Vericut is slowed down also, making the playback slower and bigger. It becomes a slowdown loop that makes it useless. Camtasia would need an option for frame creation based on a change in the window to make it equivalent to the detail created from the Vericut AVI generation. Has that been added to the newest Camtasia?
The question now is when will Vericut64 use a Codec equal in quality to the TSCC codec?
