VERICUT 6.0, cannot add licenses, Error [19]

Problem
We encountered an update problem where a customer could not add licenses to his running license server in a VERICUT 6.0 installation. The license server was working correctly on this computer with his 5.4 installation.

The symptom is that when attempting to add licenses, either via the Update License start menu button or WlmAdmin, the message "Error [19]: Unable to Add Licenses" displays.

Cause
The problem is caused because SentinelLM 8.0 (delivered with VERICUT 6.0) cannot find an ethernet device that matches the ethernet address encrypted in the license key. It appears SentineLM 7.2 (delivered with VERICUT 5.4) could find it.

The ethernet device in this case was a token-ring device, which may be the reason SLM 8.0 could not find it. SLM 8.0 uses a different scheme to find the ethernet device address, compared to 7.2. 8.0's scheme is able to find enabled (but disconnected) devices, where 7.2 failed on disconnected devices.

Solution
Fortunately the customer had another ethernet device in the same computer, and SentinelLM was able to find this one. We created a license locked to this device instead, and were then able to add licenses and all is now functioning correctly.
