why buy the IMG when the AVI is free?
:?
I would like to buy License(s) for image file playback files & perhaps tool path review,
as long as it is reasonably priced.
Why IMG vs AVI
AVI files are free but are limited.
Img file have a status window, can forward fast and rewind to tool change, and / or, every n number of blocks as the user created.
There can be multiple views.
Why now and not before?
We are in the process of putting a dedicated PC & color flat screen monitor, on just about every machine in shop. And we have around 60.
For several reasons
We are upgrading our DNC,
We also added viewer software for color shop books. And other things.
So viewing image files at the machine is only now practical, because the hardware is there.
This is how I would sell it to my owner
Operators, leadsmen and Programmers will like it.
As operators use it, it will give them familiarity and confidence in what they are doing.
they can find, isolate , and document areas of the program they want to get "improved"
It may also stimulate some to be future shop floor Vericut users.
Machine operators make great 2nd pair of eyes.
Many of the operators are taking Catia or UG, or Master cam at night school. Vericut is missing.
Lead men can use it to plan ahead.
Programmers can use it to answer operator questions by showing.
The best way to see something is to look at it.

Once again, I would like to buy License(s) for image file playback files.
as long as it is reasonably priced.
But I can?t buy what they don?t sell.
We have 60 + machines so a descending price structure might be in order for multiple seats. Network hookup is later, so a floating is out. Maybe a dongle.
I know it was tried before..... Vericut Base.
But it had more than people wanted and it was too pricey.
This is less stuff for less $, just fancier movies.
if you think you might want it for your shop, please respond with a simple, " I agree"

The IMG player is not licensed. It does require a license server and checks for a 'verification' license, but does not check-out the license. Thus the player is only available for use by VERICUT users, but does not require you purchase anything extra.
The command to run the .img player is located in ...\commands\player.bat. It either takes the .img file as a command argument, or opens an FSB when you run it.
You can associate the .img extension to player.bat, and it will open automatically when you double-click on the file.
If you make this association, you can then put a link to an .img file in an html document, and the video will open when you click on the link.
When you run the stand-alone player the status window is not available.

Sounds good so far Bill. Question, how rev tolerant is the .img file?

Good question Val. We don't pay a lot of attention to that, but probably should.
I seem to remember we broke upward compatibility when we added the status information. Then we broke it again when we added multiple views. Then we broke it again when we went to the java GUI. I think we've broken it again switching from index color to RGB color in 6.0.
Not a great track record on upward compatibility.
