Solidworks and Vericut

I would like to input complicated solidworks fixture designs into Vericut. IGS is all over the place I rarly get 90% of the parts. The last assmebly I tried using IGS out of Solidworks I got one cyclinder out of 26 parts.

When in assembly mode Solidworks outputs each part of the assemble as seprate STLs. I tried to save my assembly as a single part after which I tried IGS and STL. This made no Change in IGS and SW would not even STL output, it said the file type was not right for this operation.

At this point I have a work around. I can read IGS into Mastercam then STL it out. When I tried this I only lost one part. This is time consuming. Any known fixs, Scripts or proceedures I could use?

Thanks

Re: Solidworks and Vericut

The problem you may be having with outputting .stl's from a saved SolidWorks .prt file of an assembly may be the type of model that you created when you saved your assembly.  Be sure to save as a solid not a surface.  This setting is under you options button in your "save as" dialog.  I have had this problem in the past and it drove me a little nutty for a while.  Open the file that will not save as a .stl and look at the component type.

In this same area in Solidworks, the options button in the "Save as" dialog, there is a check box to save all components of an assembly in one .stl file.  You can hide or show what you would like to export and make stl models as you would like.  From this area you can also select any defined coordinate system to export your file about.  This can keep you from having to move your model around inside of Vericut.

File
  Save As
     Pick .stl as File type
Bottom right hand corner is the options button.

Happy exporting!
