Enhacement: Smart Section????

Hey,

I received a simulation video of a customer, they use another simulation Software, by the way, a little famous, and there was an amazing thing that could save a lot of time.

It's like a smart section or auto refresh section, they just flag on a check box, at section window, and I think a position, and run.
While the machine is in movement, the section is following the point that you selected.

So that simulation works in this way:
The section was following the center of tool, and when a drill (example) was in the hole #1, the stock was sectioned at that point, and when the drill was moving the section too, and when the drill was drilling the hole #2, the stock was sectioned exactly at those point, and so on...

Really, I am tired of pausing simulation, open the status window, taking the value of the axis, opening the section window, entering that value, sectioning and start again....all this for just one hole....¬¬

Vericut is a great tool, but in many aspects seems it is still in 90's...

Tks, and I really expect a answer about this....

Re: Enhacement: Smart Section????

Igor,

Have you sent this formally to CGTECH Br?

It's one the best ideas I've heard about VERICUT. I´d call it "Dynamic Sectioning".

CGTECH lags behind this product you're a talking about in many aspects, whereas the opposite is also true.

Enhancement requests via forum only don't get much traction so you should always ask the local office to give you a SCR number so you can follow up later.

My experience is that smart things like the one above gets attention when a number of people requests it too.

The reality is that as members of this board we do not act  much as a common voice or sponsor each other requests. So the feedback we get from CGTECH is sparse as you can see.

WYSIWYG

Re: Enhacement: Smart Section????

Daniel,

I didn't send this request yet....The problem is exactly this, many of my requests they didn't make cause only I, or better, only GROB "needs" or request those....

I thought if I put this here, other users could see, like and give ideas (as you did), and we could get power to ask they this....

I will send this.

Igor, don´t bother to send to CGTech only global stuff. I can tell will that without an ER/SCR logged officially into their CRM, the odds are low that CGTech product management will notice it here. There are lots of specifics of our business, machinery and company that CGTech has covered because we logged the enhancement request with them and got the number, and I do fierce follow up with them regularly.

Every enhancement I request here I email the URL of the post to CGTech Br and ask for a SCR #. The ones I posted in the past weeks I got not SCR # yet, but first thing next week is to ask for the numbers. And follow up regularly.

Sometimes we get what we ask and sometimes we don´t. But you need to keep letting them know what is important for you, otherwise they will look somewhere else. Their business processes are not so different than ours anyway.

This forum is a bit abandoned because people come here mostly to read instead of contribute. A reply with a +1 to a post takes 20 seconds and even so few people do it. Many good ideas I´ve seen people posting here are not sponsored. That´s why it´s important to formalize ERs. Then CGTech sees them.

Yeah, I got it...

Well, for anyone who are interrested, here it is:

Re: Enhacement: Smart Section????

+1

This is a good idea. I imagine this would be a big performance drag, but …. I always prefer the user to have the option to take performance hit, and have the new functionality.  Perhaps with Open GL it won’t be so bad?

I imagine some setting would be needed to control how often the section would refresh.

As for the use case, I believe when trying to focus on a specific area that has a problem, the ability to have dynamic sectioning would be real handy.

Re: Enhacement: Smart Section????

I like the idea about creating a section "on the fly" based on the current tool. If it´s milling, then we could select a direction (XYZ) based on the orientation of current tool axis, and turning, along ZX and XY...

Re: Enhacement: Smart Section????

+1 for any new sectioning capability

I believe that Vericut 8 still will not do any sectioning with the machine view active.  I don't seem to be able to get a workpiece section and a cutting tool in the same view.  Do I understand the limitation correctly?  That seems like a huge lack.

+1 to this

We miss this a lot here when using attachments and long boring bars where the tool is just a cartridge and the boring bar is an attachment from the MCH file. When this happens you don´t see the boring bar back side when machining I.D.s, you only see the cartridge in other views that allow sectioning.

Re: Enhacement: Smart Section????

This is indeed something that needs some traction at CGTech. Disappointing to see no progress in this area.

Re: Enhacement: Smart Section????

Hi all,
Thanks for your input on VERICUT sectioning. Just to let you know, we are actively working on the sectioning capability now. The first major enhancement is being shown in our North American VUEs over the next couple of months- version 8.1 of VERICUT can section the workpiece in Machine/Cut Stock view. As Daniel mentioned, this is fantastic for machines with complex tooling and attachments, such as facing heads, long boring bars, tailstocks.

Keep those great suggestions coming!

Is this something you guys discussed about already? Should I submit a separate ER for this?

Tks!
