Recording AVI File

I've been trying to record an AVI file of a simulation to demonstrate something to a post processor engineer.

However, when I used the Record function, it only records a few seconds, but then stops. It doesn't record any actual cutting motion. However, the file size is around 500mb.

Am I missing something here? I have plenty of disk space, and it seems to be doing something as a) the file size gets to around 500mb and b) the verification slows (which I would execpt considering it is trying to verify, and record a video, at the same time)

Re: Recording AVI File

Have you considered using VERICUT Reviewer, far more useful than an AVI?

Same problem wherever the AVI file is saved?

Re: Recording AVI File

Try to install a codec pack.

This is a good one:

http://codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

I always use the Full version... but I guess basic would offer a lot too...

Not sure if it is related but bad or missing codecs can cause weird issues... However I think VERICUT uses Windows standard codecs in order to not have to rely on 3rd party codecs...

Well, it is worth a try...

Re: Recording AVI File

.avi files can be based on any number of video compiler-decompilers or codecs.

Vericut is setup to write with the TSCC or TechSmith codec.   Much more compact file size than the various MS codecs.   You have to install the Techsmith codec to use this option.  Techsmith codec download is free and now comes in a 64bit version also.  http://www.techsmith.com/download.html

Key with any codecs is that it must also be installed on the system you are going to play the .avi on.

Vericut determines which codecs are not available for selection by setting CGTECH_CODEC_FILTER.  This will screen out the ones you don't want users selecting.  In our vericut.bat we have "set CGTECH_CODEC_FILTER=X264 MRLE I420 IV41 IV32 IV50 IYUV M261 M263 UYVY Y411 CVID MSVC"     In short screen out everything but the Techsmith Codec.

Re: Recording AVI File

I have found that the video recording only records a couple of seconds when I have the display set to Open GL.  With this shut off it records OK.
