Vericut startup extremly slow

When we went from WinXP-32bit to Win7-64bit (2011) we saw a huge difference when starting Vericut. The startup time went from 30 seconds to 3 seconds.
Since a while -(not sure if it's started when we went from 7.1 to 7.2)- we notice an extreme long startup time of 2 minutes!!! :cry: This also happens with starting Tool Manager outside Vericut and happens on all our Vericut clients.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Could this be a Java issue? Is the Java runtime delivered with Vericut 7.2.1 compatible with the latest Java version that being deployed by Oracle (7.21)?
With a lot of other applications we had a heap of trouble when the Java 7.21 update happened.
Is it possible to log the Vericut startup?

I had a similar issue. I restored vericut to factory defaults and everything was good. Then started changing setting back to the way I wanted. I found it was if you auto set you working directory on a network, that is when it goes crazy. Also if you have multiple setup and you get into vericut by double clicking the file in windows explorer it also has this effect.

Try resetting vericut and see if it is quick again.

Makes a huge difference!
Starting a blank session after the reset: 10 sec.
Double clicking a project on the network: 12 sec
After tweaking the preferences back to what I use/like (including auto set working dir to network) : 13 sec

I looked at the differences in the old and new cgtech_72_user.prefs and noticed it went from 251 lines to 59. This will probably grow as you start to work with vericut.

Didn't expect this to have such an impact. :wink:

Cheering to early. Within a day starting-up started to increase, now after a couple of days, starting up is already at 70 sec.

Is it possible to limit the recent projects list?

It's only 6kb. The recent file list is limited to 4.

I found that if you don't auto set the working directory you are good for the most part. If you have a project that has multiple setup, open it through vericut and not by double clicking the file in explorer.

If you don't do those 2 things it remains quick to open.

Found it! (Starting Vericut had run up to over 180 seconds :cry: , the last months.)

It was the virus scanner (McAfee) that caused the trouble. Every time I start Vericut the system started to scan stuff before launching the application.
Deep down in the McAfee logs I found a lot of messages saying:

"scanning C:\Program Files\cgtech\VERICUT 7.2.3\windows64\jre\lib\rt.jar takes to long and will be canceled.

I made some exclusions for several trusted folders.
Back to 6 seconds again :mrgreen:
