We have just purchased the VeriCut Simulation package for our Deckel DMG 80U 5 axis machines and wanted to provide the most economical Hi-Ended graphics workstation possible. We had an HP XW 6200 station that was not being used that has the dual 3.6 Xeon processors on board. I maxed out the RAM to 8gb (machine maximum). I have added a Sparkle GT220 graphics card with 2gb on board RAM and HDMI / DVI-I / and VGA outputs. The goal was to have the fastest processing and response time along with the best possible visuals (of course). I have used Windows 7 Professional x64 as the op sys and VeriCut 7 as the only application loaded on this machine. It is a networked station and will only do the simulations and verifications. It will also be a quasi-showpiece for customers that are given the company tour. After looking at various CAD LCD monitors, I decided to try to take advantage of the HDMI output and try a HD TV unit. I opted for a Panasonic Viera 32" 1080p. The initial testing is quite inpressive, and although we have not installed the specific Deckel packages, the demonstation viewing and benchmarking is very good. The HDMI to HDMI output also provides sound to the unit. This screen size sounds like an overkill, but the quality and sheer size of the viewing area will let the programmers see the full part simulation without having to zoom back and forth. From the show piece aspect, it is very impressive. This would not be worth writing about if this combination of products would cost 2-4 thousand dollars, however, this station can be built for about $1000 USD. I have itemized the costs below :
HP XW6200 /3.6ghz dual processors approximately $200 USD on eBay shipped. (This is an actual purchase)
8gb Crucial RAM memory modules $400 USD (actual purchase)
Sparkle GT220 Graphics card w/2gb on board RAM $100 USD (actual purchase) ( http://www.sparkle.com.tw/News/SPGT220/ ... 20_en.html )
Panasonic 32" Viera HDTV w/ 1080p $400 (actual purchase)
