phantom machine file name in .usr file

Why does a user file sometimes point to a non existing machine and control file?

Than, someone loads that user file it says problems were encountered, .mch .ctl file not found.

1. Will switching to a machine view automatically create a .mch file? :?

2. Will setting visibility to "both"  in the  component attributes, automatically create a .mch file?  :?

3. any other conditions automatically create a .mch file?  yikes

4. what is the best way to fix? I have been editing the .usr file, and setting the machine file name, from this phantom machine file name, to none

We are starting to transition to V6, but I would like to know how this applies to Both V5, and V6

Thank you in advance.
